Land applications to go online

BRUNEIANS will be able to file property applications on the e-Darussalam portal by this year, a spokesperson from the E-Government Promotion Unit said.

The spokesperson, who did not want to be named, said the Land Application Registration System (LARIS) is expected to go live on the portal sometime this year.

In an interview, she said LARIS will enable landowners and members of the public to make online applications for various services under the Land Department.

The services include land ownership transfer, making changes to land title details and lease of private land.

The spokesperson added that more government services will be integrated under the e-Darussalam portal this year.

More than 60,000 Bruneians have registered for an e-Darussalam account, year-end statistics from the E-Government Promotion Unit showed.

The highest number of registrations was in March, with 7,526 people opening an account through an e-Darussalam Clinic at the Civil Service Institute.

An e-Darussalam account allows registrants to access government services such as vehicle licence renewal, paying utility bills and job application from the comfort of their homes.

His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, launched the portal in July 2011.

Early last year, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohammad Yasmin Hj Umar had introduced the Digital Government Strategy 2015-2020, which aimed to integrate all government services into the e-Darussalam portal.

The minister also said the portal will allow a platform for citizens and the government to communicate and provide feedback in developing national policies.

The e-Darussalam portal currently hosts nine online services, including driving and vehicle licence renewal applications, Public Service Commission (PSC) recruitment system, Labour Control System and JobCentre Brunei.
